Daniel Smithwick, MIT, United States

Daniel SmithwickDaniel Smithwick is a PhD candidate in the Design and Computation group as well as a researcher in the Changing Places Group at the MIT Media Lab. His research is on mass customization and user-generated design for the home - including its products, its experiences, and the design of the home itself.   Particularly, the research focuses on developing technologies to aid consumers in making better choices through advanced user interfaces, recommendation algorithms, and social media platforms.

Jarmo Suominen, Aalto University, Finland

Prof. Jarmo Suominen pecializes in personalization strategies, user innovation concepts and customer experience management processes and tools. Professor Suominen is director of the Future Home Institute at Aalto University in the School of Art & Design. He is also visiting scientist at the MIT Design Lab, and a principal of Suominen Architects. He has won numerous prizes in architectural competitions in Finland and in Europe.

Mitchell Tseng,HKUST, Hong Kong

Mitchell M. Tseng is a professor of Industrial Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Director of both the Advanced Manufacturing Institute and the Zhejiang Advanced Manufacturing Institute at UST. He started his career in industry as a manufacturing engineer and progressed through several senior management positions at Xerox and Digital Equipment. His research interests focus on technology for mass customization and personalization, systems integration, design, and manufacturing automation.

Dominik Walcher, FH Salzburg, Austria

Dominik Walcher is professor for marketing and innovation management at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences / School for Design and Product Management. He studied architecture and management at the University of Stuttgart, the Technical University Munich (TUM) and the University of California at Berkeley. His doctoral thesis about mass customization and open innovation at Adidas was awarded with several prizes. Since May 2010 he has been directing "The Customization 500" initiative.
